edit: Fixed some stuff... I actually edited this picture a while ago for my portfolio review but I did some weird shit in Photoshop (the orig had many many layers so I just copy merged them into a new document and painted on top) and it TOTALLY messed up in printing so I had to print the original version for my review!! Needless to say I felt really shitty about it. Whateverrr I don't know anymore

My Painting & Composition final, a simple picture of Persephone from one of my favorite Greek myths.

For those who are unfamiliar with the story... well... look it up on Wikipedia!
To answer some questions (belatedly sorry haha), yes, in a nutshell, it is the story where Hades falls in love with Persephone, the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, and steals her to the underworld. Demeter, who is the goddess of the Earth is devastated by her disappearance causes life on earth to cease. Zeus who realizes that everyone is suffering because of Hades's desire for Persephone forces Hades to return Persephone to the Earth, but not before Hades tricks Persephone into eating six pomegranate seeds. The six seeds represent the months of the year that she must live in the underworld with Hades, also representing the seasons where the earth "dies".

(Oh, and I noticed that if you make the hues in PS just slightly more on the red side, when you optimize for web the colors tend to go slightly more towards what you are aiming for.)

It's awesome! I've kept an eye on your gallery for some years now. And you always surprise me with your way of shading. And you're still improving. It's so inspirational XD

The background is really nice, I always seem to have problems with colours. I mostly end up taking the most strong and sharp colours :< Do you have a special method?

Then there's the hair. I love how it flows but still has weight to it. You can tell that the person who made this put passion into it.

And the expression really shows that she's the Queen of the underworld. A killer look. Definetly not a person I would come near XD

I would have liked for the skeleton heads to be more visual and detailed. But maybe you didn't have time for it, or did it on purpose. :/

That's the one where hades steals her away and then her mother gets upset and they come to some agreement (wait maybe not an agreement, but something that forces her to) that she will stay with Hades for several months, and that's winter. Right? O:
